About Fiemme Car-Free

Fiemme Car-Free is a major sustainable mobility event held every June. The Dolomite State Road 48 is closed to traffic, transforming into a long, car-free cycle path. For about twelve kilometers, from Cavalese to the Predazzo Biolake, the valley comes alive with bicycles, music, games, and local flavors. The route ends in Predazzo, where the Biolake opens for free to kick off the summer season with sports, gastronomy, and live music.

A valley that says no to cars

Fiemme Car-Free is one of the most beloved sustainable mobility events in Trentino. Every year, in early June, the Dolomite State Road 48 is closed to vehicular traffic for an entire day, turning into a long, temporary cycle path: twelve kilometers of car-free space connecting Cavalese to the Predazzo Biolake, passing through the villages of Ville di Fiemme, Tesero, Panchià, and Ziano di Fiemme. Launched in 2009, the event has become a staple of the Fiemme spring, attracting families, cyclists, and curious visitors from across the valley and beyond. Only eco-friendly transport is permitted: you can explore the state road on foot, by bicycle, on rollerblades, or by scooter.

Predazzo, the finish line of the car-free day

The municipality of Predazzo, in the province of Trento, marks the end of the route. The heart of the festivities is the Predazzo Biolake, a natural oasis at the foot of the Dolomites that blends nature, wellness, fun, and relaxation. On the day of the event, admission is free, coinciding with the start of the summer season. Food stalls, sports activities, and music are concentrated around the swimming lake, while the town streets host games, entertainment, and activities for all ages.

A full day of activities

From 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the state road becomes a true open-air stage. Along the route, and especially in Predazzo, you will find:

  • Live music, dance, and performances along the path
  • Games and activities for children and teenagers, including workshops and sports
  • Food stalls featuring local products, desserts, and regional street food
  • The Predazzo Biolake, open for free with refreshments and lakeside entertainment
  • Environmental awareness activities organized by local associations

The event is completely free and designed to be reached without a car: a free Bike Express shuttle service is available by reservation, with stops in Molina, Masi di Cavalese, Lago di Tesero, Ziano, and Predazzo, in addition to the valley floor bus lines.

Sustainability and community

Organized by the municipalities of Val di Fiemme in collaboration with the Fiemme and Cembra Tourist Board, the Territorial Valley Community, and the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, the day has a clear goal: to promote a sustainable lifestyle, showcase the region, and raise awareness about eco-friendly transport among residents and tourists. More than just an event, Fiemme Car-Free has become a community celebration that finds a bright, festive finale at the Predazzo Biolake.

Fiemme Car-Free — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Fiemme Car-Free took place on Tuesday, June 2nd, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Despite rain and unseasonably cool temperatures, hundreds of people traveled along the SS48 Dolomite Road, which was closed to traffic for twelve kilometers from Cavalese to the Predazzo Biolake. In Predazzo, the Biolake opened for free to kick off the summer season, featuring sports, refreshments, and live music.

Fiemme Car-Free 2026 in Predazzo

The 2026 edition was held on Tuesday, June 2nd, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The SS48 Dolomite Road was closed for twelve kilometers between Cavalese and the Predazzo Biolake: despite the bad weather, hundreds of residents and tourists reclaimed the state road on foot, by bike, on rollerblades, and by scooter.

In Predazzo, the heart of the day was the Biolake, which opened for free for the start of the summer season. Highlights included sandwiches and strudel prepared by Sportabili volunteers, basketball activities for children and teenagers organized by Fiemme Basket, and live music from the band The Others starting at 4:30 PM. A new feature was the Green Quest: a passport to be completed by collecting stamps at association stands along the valley, with a raffle for vouchers for summer experiences such as hikes, tastings, and evening events. Washable tableware with a deposit system was also introduced to reduce single-use waste.
