About White Truffle Festival of Sant'Agostino

In Sant'Agostino di Terre del Reno, in the province of Ferrara, the white truffle becomes the absolute protagonist for three weekends in November. The Festival of Tuber Magnatum Pico celebrates the hidden treasure of Bosco della Panfilia, an 80-hectare flooded forest where one of Italy's most aromatic truffles grows. Under a covered and heated stand, the chefs of the Associazione Amici del Territorio serve tortellini, lasagne, crespelle, and traditional Emilian main courses, all enhanced by the intense and unmistakable aroma of the local truffle.

A festival dedicated to the king of the woods

Every November, in Sant'Agostino, a hamlet of the Municipality of Terre del Reno in the province of Ferrara, one of the most anticipated food and wine festivals of autumn in Emilia-Romagna takes place. The Festival of Tuber Magnatum Pico of Bosco della Panfilia is a tribute to the prized white truffle, the most precious and sought-after hypogeous fungus, which finds one of its favorite habitats right here. For three consecutive weekends, the Renato Caselli sports field is transformed into a large covered and heated restaurant where local cuisine meets the noblest aroma of the earth.

Bosco della Panfilia, home of the white truffle

The heart of this festival is the Bosco della Panfilia, a reserve of about 80 hectares created over three centuries ago along the bends of the Reno river, on the border between the provinces of Ferrara and Bologna. Since 1971, it has been recognized as a biotope of significant botanical interest: it is one of the rare flooded forests in the Po Valley, dominated by downy oaks, white poplars, ashes, and willows. It is precisely in this humid, humus-rich environment that the Tuber Magnatum Pico develops particularly intense aromas and characteristic irregular shapes. It is no coincidence that Terre del Reno has been part of the National Association of Truffle Towns since 2009.

The festival's cuisine

The menu is entirely built around the white truffle, hand-prepared by the chefs of the Associazione Amici del Territorio della Comunitร  di Sant'Agostino. Among the most popular offerings, you'll find:

  • Appetizers: truffle spinach and pumpkin flans, seasonal fantasies;
  • First courses: tortellini, lasagne, tagliatelle, and crespelle, all strictly with truffle;
  • Main courses: cotoletta, baked guinea fowl, tagliata, and the classic truffle egg;
  • Side dishes and desserts served from a trolley.

All dishes can also be served without truffle, to satisfy every palate. Service is ร  la carte, with a dedicated wine list.

A convivial experience in the heart of the Bassa ferrarese

More than just a village festival, the event is an identity-building appointment for Sant'Agostino and the entire Bassa ferrarese region. The covered and heated structure allows you to enjoy truffles even on the coldest autumn evenings, in a familiar and welcoming atmosphere. Reservations are recommended due to the high attendance; contact the organization at the dedicated numbers.
