The River Crayfish Festival

When people in Friuli talk about river crayfish, the mandatory destination is Saletto, a small hamlet in the Municipality of Morsano al Tagliamento, in the Province of Pordenone. Here, spanning June and July, the Festival of Saints Peter and the Crayfish returns every year, intertwining the celebrations for the patron saint Peter (June 29th) with the celebration of the town's most iconic gastronomic specialty.

Crayfish in Herb Sauce

The signature dish is crayfish in herb sauce, a traditional recipe that smells of the Friulian countryside. Alongside the crayfish, the menu offers crayfish crostini, fish puff pastries, gnocchi, grilled dishes, and, on Sundays, a rich fish-based lunch. The Gjambars kiosk completes the offering with pizza, frico, and drinks, in a journey of flavors that tells the story of Saletto's connection to its irrigation ditches.

Summer Evenings of Music and Fireflies

The festival is also a community celebration: every weekend features DJ sets and live music, while among the most evocative moments is the firefly display, and Friday is dedicated to the traditional fried food evening. The kiosks open every evening from 7 PM. It's an opportunity to experience the most authentic Friulian summer, far from crowded destinations, in the heart of the lower Pordenone region.
