About Our Lady of Maestà
An intimate bond with the Ficulle community
The Festival of Our Lady of Maestà is celebrated in Ficulle, in the Province of Terni, every November 21st, the liturgical memorial of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Temple. For the people of Ficulle, it represents a deep and indissoluble bond with the Madonna venerated in the Sanctuary of Maestà: the festival is attended by local faithful as well as many emigrants who return to the town for the occasion, approaching the sacraments of confession and the Eucharist.
A day of pilgrimage
The day is marked by continuous celebrations: from the early morning masses to the solemn mass at midday, resuming in the afternoon with the rosary and the eucharistic blessing, culminating in the evening mass presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Orvieto-Todi. The Sanctuary of Maestà thus becomes the destination of a day-long pilgrimage.
Chestnuts, new wine, and autumn tradition
The religious dimension is complemented by the popular one: in the afternoon, in front of the church, the custom of roasted chestnuts and new wine is renewed, in a convivial moment that combines devotion and traditional autumn farming. The festival also preserves the memory of the vow made by the community during World War II, to which the crown placed on the Madonna's head bears witness.
Our Lady of Maestà — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Festival of Our Lady of Maestà will be held in Ficulle on Saturday, November 21st, a fixed date linked to the liturgical memorial of the Presentation of Mary at the Temple. As every year, the day will be marked by uninterrupted celebrations at the Sanctuary of Maestà: from the early morning masses to the solemn midday mass, from the rosary and the afternoon eucharistic blessing to the evening mass presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Orvieto-Todi. In the afternoon, in front of the church, the tradition of roasted chestnuts and new wine will be renewed. The detailed timetable will be confirmed by the parish closer to the festival.

Based on the traditional program (times to be confirmed by the parish closer to the festival):
- From 5:00 AM — continuous masses, one every hour
- 11:30 AM — Solemn Mass
- 4:00 PM — resumption of celebrations with Rosary and eucharistic blessing
- Afternoon — roasted chestnuts and new wine in front of the church
- 6:00 PM — Final Mass presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Orvieto-Todi

How to get there
Ficulle can be reached by car from the A1 motorway (Fabro exit) or from the SS71. The reference train station is Fabro-Ficulle. The Sanctuary of Maestà is located near the village.
