A peasant-rooted Easter festival

The Festival of lu Ciuccittu is an Easter tradition in Ferentillo, in the Terni Valnerina, linked to ancient peasant customs: when, in anticipation of the holidays, it was necessary to procure as many eggs as possible to prepare the traditional Easter cakes. From this memory is born a medieval community festival that enlivens the village on Easter and Easter Monday.

The egg challenge between the terzieri

The highlight is the 'Gara de Lu Ciuccittu': the three terzieri of the village compete by tapping eggs against each other, trying to break as few as possible. Whoever keeps their egg intact wins, while the broken eggs are collected to prepare a giant truffle omelette, then served at the village stands.

Games, market, and music

Alongside the egg competition, the program features traditional games such as 'lu Tiro a lu Galle' and 'Presa dell'uovo a Volo', the artisan market, performances by the Cantori della Valnerina, and tastings of typical products. The festival culminates with a procession among the three historic terzieri and the awards ceremony. A day that tells the most authentic soul of Ferentillo and Umbria, amidst folklore, taste, and spring.
