Forest fruits and peasant cuisine in Papiano
The Festival of Forest Fruits and Typical Products of Umbria is one of the longest-running festivals in the area, hosted in the hamlet of Papiano, in the municipality of Marsciano, province of Perugia. Organized by the Pro Loco Parco di Papiano, the event celebrates the gastronomy of Umbrian peasant tradition.
The stars are the forest fruits - blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries - which are used in characteristic desserts and dishes, alongside Umbrian specialties such as 'umbricelli alla papianese', 'torta al testo' cooked in a wood-fired oven, pasta with forest fruits, and pork 'stringhette' with blueberry sauce. A cuisine that tells the story of the deep connection between the community and its territory.
Every evening, the village park comes alive with dancing, live music, and entertainment for all ages, with free admission. The traditional charity raffle is also present. In case of bad weather, a large indoor hall with seating ensures the festival can proceed.
The Papiano festival is an opportunity to discover a genuine corner of the Marsciano countryside and to taste the typical products of Umbria in a familiar and welcoming atmosphere, far from the most crowded tourist circuits.
