About Festiv'Alba

Every summer, Festiv'Alba brings a series of refined classical and early music concerts to Scurcola Marsicana, in the province of L'Aquila, hosted within the village's Baroque and Renaissance churches. As part of the extensive festival organized by Harmonia Novissima around the archaeological site of Alba Fucens, the Scurcola stage offers intimate evening performances featuring viola da gamba, guitar, flute, and cello in charming settings such as the churches of SS. Trinità e Sant'Antonio and Santa Maria della Vittoria.

Festiv'Alba in Scurcola Marsicana

Festiv'Alba is one of the most acclaimed summer festivals in inland Abruzzo: a widespread event that has been enlivening the Marsica region since 2017, with its heart at the Alba Fucens archaeological site (Municipality of Massa d'Albe) and branches in numerous neighboring villages. Among these, the Municipality of Scurcola Marsicana, in the province of L'Aquila, hosts several classical and early music concerts each year in its historic churches, marking some of the most evocative stops on the entire program.

The Venues: Baroque and Medieval Churches

In Scurcola Marsicana, concerts are held in the churches of the historic center, which are authentic jewels of Abruzzese sacred architecture. The church of SS. Trinità e Sant'Antonio, dating back to the 17th century, and the church of Santa Maria della Vittoria, linked to the memory of the famous Battle of Tagliacozzo in 1268, offer cozy acoustics and an intimate atmosphere, perfect for chamber music programs. The festival's concept—music in dialogue with the historical and artistic heritage of the villages—finds one of its most authentic expressions here.

The Program

The Scurcola leg typically features three evening concerts throughout the summer, starting at 9:15 PM. The programs range from early and Baroque music to repertoire for guitar and cello, performed by specialized artists. These events are part of a broader cycle of concerts in the abbeys and churches of the Marsica region, which complements the major evening shows at the Roman amphitheater of Alba Fucens.

The Widespread Festival

Organized by the Associazione Harmonia Novissima ETS, Festiv'Alba combines archaeology, music, theater, and landscape into a single journey that traverses Alba Fucens, Scurcola Marsicana, Rosciolo, the Altopiano delle Rocche, and Monte Velino. The festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Abruzzo Region, representing one of the key cultural highlights of the Marsican summer.
