Major music and theater events at the Roman Amphitheatre of Alba Fucens
Festiv'Alba is one of the most important cultural festivals in the Abruzzo hinterland, promoted by the Harmonia Novissima ETS association under the artistic direction of Massimo Coccia. The festival is centered at the archaeological site of Alba Fucens, in the municipality of Massa d'Albe, in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo. Every summer, it extends to eight municipalities in the Marsica region—including Avezzano, Magliano de' Marsi, Scurcola Marsicana, Ovindoli, Rocca di Mezzo, and Rocca di Cambio—with a widespread program that combines great music, classical theater, symphonic concerts, and early music evenings.
The most spectacular setting for the festival is the Roman Amphitheatre of Alba Fucens, a 1st-century AD monument nestled at the foot of Monte Velino. Here, in the heart of summer, the festival's major evening events take place: concerts by nationally renowned artists, theatrical performances of classical Greek and Latin traditions, operas, and musical tributes. The evocative power of the site, amidst the ruins of the ancient Roman city and the mountains, makes every evening an experience that weaves together landscape, history, and live performance.
Alongside the major events in the amphitheatre, Festiv'Alba offers a rich selection of classical and early music in the medieval and baroque churches of the area, with concerts dedicated to medieval, Renaissance, and baroque repertoires performed on historical instruments. These are complemented by concerts in nature, hosted in scenic locations on the Altopiano delle Rocche such as Ovindoli and Rocca di Mezzo. It is a formula that brings the general public closer to the historical, artistic, and scenic heritage of Abruzzo, enhancing archaeological sites, villages, and monuments that are otherwise rarely visited.
Founded in 2017, Festiv'Alba has grown to become a defining event for the Marsica region and the entire province of L'Aquila. With dozens of shows spread over nearly two months and hundreds of artists involved, the festival attracts classical music enthusiasts, tourists, and families every year, contributing to the cultural and tourism development of the territory.
With its widespread vocation and choice of history-rich locations, Festiv'Alba is now one of the great summer festivals of Abruzzo, capable of combining quality entertainment with the discovery of the Marsica territory.
For its tenth anniversary, from June 29 to August 22, 2026, Festiv'Alba offers 35 live shows distributed between the Roman Amphitheatre of Alba Fucens (Massa d'Albe, AQ), the medieval churches of the territory, and the scenic locations of the Altopiano delle Rocche. The festival is organized by Harmonia Novissima ETS with artistic direction by Massimo Coccia.
In addition to the amphitheatre events, the festival includes 20 classical and early music concerts in the medieval and baroque churches of the Marsica region—with programs dedicated to medieval, Renaissance, and baroque repertoires—and 5 concerts in nature, between Ovindoli and the Altopiano delle Rocche.
The major events are held in the Roman Amphitheatre of Alba Fucens, in the municipality of Massa d'Albe (AQ). Other festival appointments take place in the churches and villages of eight municipalities in the Marsica and Altopiano delle Rocche areas.
By car: Take the Avezzano or Magliano de' Marsi exit on the A25 Rome–Pescara motorway, then follow the road to Alba Fucens. The reference railway station is Avezzano, on the Rome–Pescara line, from where you can continue by car or bus towards Massa d'Albe.
