Four evenings of classical and early music in the medieval church of Santa Lucia, in Rocca di Cambio
As part of Festiv'Alba, the major summer festival of music, theater, and culture promoted by the Harmonia Novissima ETS association under the artistic direction of Massimo Coccia, the 14th-century church of Santa Lucia in Rocca di Cambio, in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, hosts a cycle of concerts dedicated to classical and early music every summer. Four consecutive evenings in mid-August transform the ancient sacred building into an exceptional concert hall, where medieval, baroque, and classical repertoires converse with the stones of a place that preserves the memory of centuries.
At an altitude of over 1,400 meters, Rocca di Cambio is one of the highest municipalities in the Apennines and all of Italy. Situated on the Altopiano delle Rocche, at the foot of Monte Velino and overlooking the Sirente chain, the village offers a natural setting of rare beauty, characterized by high-altitude pastures, beech forests, and clear skies. In this scenario, the Santa Lucia concerts combine the enjoyment of great music with the discovery of a mountain territory of authentic charm, part of the Sirente-Velino Regional Natural Park.
The concerts at the Abbey of Santa Lucia represent one of the most precious strands of Festiv'Alba, that of early and classical music, which every year brings specialized ensembles, soloists, and performers of historical instruments to the churches and abbeys of the Marsica region. Alongside the major evening events at the Roman Amphitheater of Alba Fucens—the heart of the festival in the municipality of Massa d'Albe—this section offers a more intimate and focused listening experience, enhancing the sacred heritage of inland Abruzzo and introducing the public to a repertoire ranging from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.
All concerts in the church of Santa Lucia are held with free admission, in line with the popular and educational vocation of the festival, which aims to bring the general public closer to cultured music and the historical and landscape heritage of the territory. The evenings, which begin in the evening, are an opportunity to experience the summer of the Altopiano delle Rocche by combining culture, nature, and tradition.
Part of one of the most important summer festivals in Abruzzo, the Santa Lucia concerts in Rocca di Cambio are an invitation to discover great music in a high-altitude village in the Marsica region, amidst history, spirituality, and landscape.
For the tenth edition of Festiv'Alba, the 14th-century church of Santa Lucia in Rocca di Cambio (AQ) hosts four consecutive concerts of the classical and early music section, all at 9:15 PM and with free admission, as part of the concerts on the Altopiano delle Rocche.
The four evenings offer a journey through French baroque music, South American guitar, the great violin repertoire, and 14th-century polyphony, in one of the most evocative settings of Festiv'Alba. The festival is promoted by Harmonia Novissima ETS, under the artistic direction of Massimo Coccia, and spans eight municipalities in the Marsica region and the Altopiano delle Rocche.
The concerts are held in the church of Santa Lucia, in the center of Rocca di Cambio (AQ), on the Altopiano delle Rocche.
