Three days of faith, historical procession, and major concerts in August in Montemilone
Montemilone is a village in northern Basilicata, in the province of Potenza, situated between the Vulture area and the Apulian plain. Here, devotion to Maria Santissima del Bosco has ancient roots, linked to the Sanctuary of the Glorious, a building erected between 1187 and 1198. Every year, in mid-August, the patronal festival draws citizens and emigrants to the town for a celebration that combines faith and grand spectacle.
The program traditionally spans three days, from August 11th to 13th. The evenings alternate between band concerts, major Italian music artists hosted on the main stage, and the more solemn moments of popular devotion. In recent years, Montemilone has hosted nationally renowned artists such as Danilo Sacco, Enrico Ruggeri, and Riccardo Fogli, transforming the patronal festival into a top-tier musical event for the entire district.
The heart of the festival are the historical parade and the procession with the effigy of the Madonna del Bosco, which winds through the town center amidst the emotional participation of the community. Musical bands, illuminations, and fireworks accompany the faithful in a crescendo of emotion that culminates in the final concert on August 13th.
Promoted by the Municipality of Montemilone with the festival committee, the celebration of the Madonna del Bosco is an opportunity to discover a little-known corner of Basilicata, amidst the landscapes of the Vulture and the borders with Daunia. An identity festival that, between the sacred and the profane, tells the soul of this Lucanian community.
The 2026 edition of the Madonna del Bosco festivities is confirmed in Montemilone from August 11th to 13th. Three days that intertwine popular devotion and grand spectacle, with band concerts, the historical parade, and the procession of the patron saint's effigy. To close the festival, on the evening of August 13th, the free concert by Michele Zarrillo, performer of major hits and multiple Sanremo Festival guest, will take place.
