Art, music, and wine among the ancient Pietragalla wine presses
In Pietragalla, a village in the province of Potenza, there is a unique place in the world: the Palmenti Park, over two hundred cellars carved into the tuff rock that have preserved the village's winemaking for centuries. It is here that Cantinarte comes to life every summer, the festival that intertwines art, music, culture, and food and wine in a setting of extraordinary charm.
Included in the "intangible" cultural heritage of the Basilicata Region, Cantinarte was created with the aim of enhancing the palmenti (wine presses), the "rutte" (channels for grape must), and the authentic historical and identity peculiarities of the territory. A sensory journey that winds through the ancient cellars of the historic center, where visitors rediscover ancient flavors, taste local food and wine excellences, and admire artistic and photographic exhibitions.
The event takes place without interruption, from opening to closing: two days of culture, music, flavors, and fun. Among the guests of recent editions were voices of Lucanian culture such as the poet Franco Arminio. Cantinarte is today one of the most recognized territorial promotion events in Basilicata, capable of reviving the palmenti as the beating heart of the community.
For 2026, Cantinarte is expected in Pietragalla in August: in recent editions, the event took place around August 13-14, but the exact dates for 2026 are not yet official. The formula is confirmed: two non-stop days between the Palmenti Park and the historic center, with art, music, exhibitions, and tastings.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, with definitive dates and times, will be announced by the Municipality of Pietragalla and on the official Cantinarte channels in the coming weeks.
The traditional structure of the event includes:
When: August.
Where: Palmenti Park and historic center of Pietragalla (PZ).
How to get there: Pietragalla can be reached from the SP for Avigliano-Acerenza; about a 30-minute drive from Potenza.
Admission: free; food and wine tastings at the stands.
