Three days of patronal festival in the hamlet of Valleregia
In the heart of the Val Polcevera, the hamlet of Valleregia in the Municipality of Serra Riccò (Metropolitan City of Genoa) celebrates every year, around September 8th, the patronal festival of the Nativity of Mary Most Holy. It is the most heartfelt event of the year for the small community, which organizes three days of religious and popular celebrations.
The most solemn moment is the procession, during which the traditional "Cristi" are carried on shoulders, the large processional crucifixes typical of the Ligurian tradition, symbols of devotion and the skill of the bearers. The procession winds through the streets of the hamlet, accompanying the community in the most intense moment of the festival.
Alongside the religious part, the festival offers food stalls, music, and evening entertainment. Over the years, the event has been enriched with side initiatives, including musical evenings and street food related to the territory. An opportunity to discover the authentic village life of the Genoese hinterland, in a hamlet that keeps alive a tradition passed down from generation to generation.
For 2026, the patronal festival of Valleregia is expected around September 8th, the day of the Nativity of Mary Most Holy. As the anniversary falls on a Tuesday, celebrations might be concentrated on the weekend closest to the date.
The program will follow the traditional structure, with the procession and the "Cristi", the food stalls, and the evening musical moments. Details will be released by the organizing committee in the weeks prior.
The detailed 2026 program will be announced by the organizing committee. Based on tradition, the festival includes:
