Casoncelli, tripe and spit-roast in peasant tradition
The Festa in Biolcheria is the gastronomic fair that enlivens the village of Longhena, in the province of Brescia, every year at the beginning of September. Founded in 1976, the festival is a tribute to the peasant tradition of the Bassa Bresciana, and its symbolic dish is the casoncello — the famous local filled ravioli — so much so that it is known as the festival of "casonsei de Longhena".
Alongside the casoncelli, the food stalls offer a rich menu of traditional cuisine: tripe, spit-roast with polenta, braised meat, lard, salami, gorgonzola, and other specialities, accompanied by local wines. Everything is prepared and served by about two hundred volunteers from the Associazione Festa in Biolcheria, who wear the traditional 'biòlc' costumes: white shirts, waistcoats, and dark trousers passed down through generations, evoking the world of farmers.
The Festa in Biolcheria is not just about gastronomy; it is also an occasion for strong cohesion for the small community of Longhena. The proceeds from the festival, in addition to covering organisational costs, are allocated to local and charitable causes, from the local football team to the parish, and even to support missionary projects. An event that combines peasant memory, good food, and a spirit of solidarity.
The 2026 edition of the Festa in Biolcheria is expected in early September in Longhena, as per the established tradition of the fair. The festival will once again offer the famous casoncelli, tripe, spit-roast with polenta, and other typical dishes of Brescian peasant cuisine, served by volunteers in 'biòlc' costume.
The precise dates and the 2026 program will be announced by the Associazione Festa in Biolcheria on their Facebook page in the weeks preceding the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by the Associazione Festa in Biolcheria. The usual structure of the festival includes:
