The patron saint's feast and the grepole
In Pompiano, a municipality in the Province of Brescia in the lower plain, the Sagra de le Grepole coincides with the feast of Sant'Andrea and is the most anticipated event of the autumn. Organized by the Municipality with the Pro Loco Pompiano, it takes place in Piazza Sant'Andrea and attracts visitors from all over the area.
Grepole and brescian spit roast
The real stars are the grepole (in dialect, ciccioli, the traditional pieces of pork fat cooked until crispy), celebrated with a dedicated competition. Alongside them, the great challenge of the spiedo bresciano with polenta, a symbolic dish of the local cuisine. There are also roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, and traditional dishes.
A day for everyone
The sagra (local festival) combines devotion and popular celebration: from the inauguration with the awards for deserving students and the ceremony for babies born in the year, to the setting up of the nativity scene with bagpipers, up to the greased pole (albero della cuccagna), the exhibition of vintage cars, and shows for children. It is the classic Lombard patron saint's feast, where faith in Sant'Andrea intertwines with food and a sense of community.
Sagra de le Grepole — edition 2026
The Sagra de le Grepole, the heart of the Sant'Andrea patronal feast in Pompiano, is an annual event held on a Sunday in late November, around the patron's anniversary (November 30th). After the 23rd edition in 2025, the 24th edition is expected in 2026.
The program, confirmed by tradition, includes the grepole competition, the spiedo bresciano challenge, the greased pole, the nativity scene with bagpipers, and shows for families in Piazza Sant'Andrea.
