Eight neighbourhoods compete in the great community festival of Ghedi
The Palio dei Quartieri di Ghedi is one of those festivals a town never quite forgets. For years it was an authentic monument to the community life of this municipality in the Bassa Bresciana, in the province of Brescia, before fading for about forty years. In 2024, a group of volunteers decided to revive it, returning one of Ghedi's most beloved and identity-defining events to the town.
The heart of the Palio is the eight neighbourhoods into which the town is historically divided: Campagnola, Cave, Basgiulina (born from the merger of Bassina and Giargiulina), Sole Fiorito (Sole and Borgofiorito), Santa Maria, Cherubietti, Belvedere, and Cascine. Each district has its colour, its supporters, and its team, and for three days, sporting rivalry transforms into an occasion for intergenerational encounters and the rebirth of a sense of belonging.
The challenges are those of popular tradition, where strength, agility, and teamwork count: sack races, tug-of-war, ball relays, ring toss, wheelbarrow races, obstacle courses, and gymkhanas. Saturday is dedicated to the games and the grand convivial dinner, while Sunday features the neighbourhoods' parade accompanied by the town band, the final competitions, and the award ceremony for the winning district.
Behind the Palio is the work of about eighty volunteers who, through neighbourhood dinners, setup, and preparations, animate Ghedi for weeks. Piazza Roma, chosen as the symbolic centre of the community, and the sheltered spaces of the Oratorio San Giovanni Bosco host competitions, refreshments, and festive moments, in an atmosphere that blends competitive spirit and sharing.
After the success of its revival in 2024 and the 2025 edition, the Palio dei Quartieri di Ghedi is preparing for its third edition in September 2026. The structure follows the proven format: Friday evening opening with refreshments and presentation, Saturday dedicated to games and neighbourhood dinners, Sunday with a parade, final competitions, and the award ceremony for the winning neighbourhood.
The dates and detailed program will be announced by the organizing committee on their official channels (Facebook and Instagram) in the weeks leading up to the event.
