The apple takes centre stage in the square

The Festa della Mela is one of the most beloved autumn events in Tolmezzo, the capital of Carnia, in the province of Udine. Organized by Pro Loco Tolmezzo, it has transformed the town centre into a large showcase dedicated to this fruit and the flavours of the mountain region for almost thirty years. The heart of the event is the Pomis Arena, the spacious tent set up in Piazza XX Settembre, which hosts presentations, tastings, and show cooking sessions designed to highlight the value of the apple.

Stalls, farmers' market, and gastronomy

For two days, the festival offers dozens of food and wine stalls with apple-based dishes and Carnic specialities, served at tables or for takeaway. Visitors can stroll among the stalls of the farmers' market, tasting fresh and processed apples: cakes, strudels, juices, ciders, and jams. It's an opportunity to discover mountain fruit farming and local producers, in a festive atmosphere that attracts visitors from all over the region.

Culture, health, and community

The Festa della Mela is not just about gastronomy. Over the years, the event has also focused on the theme of health, with initiatives dedicated to well-being and healthy eating, as well as entertainment for families and children. The famous motto "an apple a day" thus becomes a starting point for a programme that combines taste, information, and social interaction, in the spirit of Carnic agricultural tradition.

Where and when

The festival takes place in the centre of Tolmezzo, with its epicentre in Piazza XX Settembre, and is accessible from the A23 motorway. The event is traditionally held on the last weekend of September, the harvest season and ideal time for a trip to Carnia.
