The Scaliger castle relives the Middle Ages
The heart of the event is the Medieval Historical Reenactment that enlivens the Scaliger castle, an ancient manor perched on the hill called Monte Zambano, on the banks of the Mincio river. The castle streets are populated by over 300 re-enactors—nobles, commoners, jesters, knights, archers, guardsmen, musicians, magicians, and witches—amidst bonfires, falconers, flag-wavers, and the roll of drums. The moments of "time freeze," where all the re-enactors remain motionless as in a living painting, are particularly evocative.
A deep-rooted tradition
With decades of history behind it, the Festa dell'Uva e Rievocazione Storica is now a classic on the Mantua and Garda calendar. The program alternates the reenactment with the magnificent procession of nobles, the representation of ancient crafts, and archery competitions, all set against a landscape that makes Monzambano one of the most charming destinations in the Mincio hills.
