Songs, circle dances and folk music to welcome summer by the lake
There is a moment, in Villa Santina, when the summer light seems reluctant to set: it is the evening of the solstice, when the green area of the lake, behind the sports center, hosts the Summer Solstice Festival. A simple and poetic evening, made of music, voices, and collective gestures, to greet the longest day of the year in one of the most serene corners of Carnia.
The evening's program, which begins after sunset, weaves together different languages: the songs of the VillaChorus choir, the circle dances offered by the group "Cuori in cerchio" (Hearts in Circle), and live folk music, which in the past has also featured the Irish repertoire of the duo Darint. Among the most evocative offerings is the collective creation of a large solstice mandala, in which the public is invited to participate.
The event is organized by the VillaChorus Musical Cultural Association, with the support and collaboration of the Pro Loco of Villa Santina (local tourism board), the Sports Fishing & Environmental Protection Association of the 5 Municipalities, the Municipality of Villa Santina, and USCI FVG. The result is a free-admission event that enhances the lake as a space for social interaction and links Carnic choral tradition with an ancient ritual, that of the solstice.
The setting of the lake, surrounded by greenery and overlooking the Carnia mountains, makes this evening an intimate and secluded experience, far from large crowds but rich in atmosphere. In case of bad weather, the event may be cancelled.
For 2026, the festival is expected on the evening of the solstice, around June 21, in the green area of the Villa Santina lake. The formula remains the tried and tested one: choral songs, circle dances, live folk music, and moments of collective participation. The date and details of the guests will be confirmed by the organizers in the preceding weeks.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced in the coming weeks.
Based on previous editions, the evening (starting after sunset) includes:
How to get there: Villa Santina is located in Carnia, along the state road from Tolmezzo towards Ampezzo; the lake area can be reached from via Pineta, behind the sports center.
Admission: free. In case of bad weather, the event may be cancelled.
Accommodation: accommodation facilities in Villa Santina, Tolmezzo, and in the municipalities of Carnia.
