The Rice Festival
In Grumolo delle Abbadesse, in the province of Vicenza, rice is not just an agricultural product: it is identity. The Festa del Riso, held in Piazza Papa Giovanni XXIII since 1999, is the grand food and wine festival dedicated to this excellence, created to promote a product cultivated in the area for over five hundred years.
Grumolo Rice
The Rice of Grumolo delle Abbadesse is historically linked to the ancient fief of the abbesses and to the rice paddies present for more than five centuries in the Municipality. The varieties cultivated are Vialone Nano and Carnaroli, the basis for the risottos that can be enjoyed at the festival. The signature dish is the Risotto dea Badessa, recognized as a De.Co. (Municipal Designation) product.
Five Days of Celebration
The food stand offers risottos in many variations, as well as traditional dishes. The evenings are accompanied by orchestras and dancing, while the festival area hosts the Alpini market, the fair-trade market, and stands with fried specialties. The festival, which has always had a charitable purpose, concludes with fireworks. A convenient pre-order system is available, online or on-site.

How to get there
Grumolo delle Abbadesse is located along the Vicenza-Padua axis. By car from the A4 motorway (Vicenza Est exit); several parking areas are available. By train, nearby stations are Vicenza or Grisignano di Zocco.
