In Sarmego, a hamlet of Grumolo delle Abbadesse (province of Vicenza), the beginning of summer coincides with the Festa della Tagliata, a festival (sagra) organized by the local parish at the area in Via Venezia. The signature dish is the Tagliata di Sorana, the star of the food stand alongside traditional Venetian dishes.
Six evenings of celebration
The festival spans six evenings, from Friday to the following Wednesday. The food stand opens every evening from 7:00 PM and offers, in addition to the tagliata, bigoli pasta, gnocchi, and soppressa (cured sausage) with polenta and bread, as well as an outdoor area with beers and fried foods. There is also an artisan area, a fair-trade market in the parish halls, and a charity raffle.
Music and tradition
The evenings are enlivened by orchestras and dancing on the steel dance floor, with an area dedicated to DJ sets for younger audiences and non-stop music. The festival, which is parish-based and linked to the figure of Saint Michael the Archangel, concludes with a fireworks display.
