The Festa d'la Rana e dal Stracot d'Asan (Festival of the Frog and Donkey Stew) is the gastronomic festival of Belforte, a hamlet of Gazzuolo (Province of Mantua). Founded in the nineties and organised by Circolo La Torre, it is one of the most anticipated summer events in the lower Mantua region, dedicated to typical dishes recognised as De.Co. (Denominazione Comunale - Municipal Designation).

The festival menu is a journey into the territory's iconic recipes:
- Stracotto d'asino alla belfortese, the hamlet's signature dish;
- Frittata di rane alla belfortese, a specialty of river tradition;

A tradition that endures
The frog omelette and donkey stew tell the story of a simple, peasant cuisine, linked to the waters of the Oglio river and the rural civilisation of the Mantua plain. The festival, approaching its thirtieth edition, keeps these recipes alive and with them the identity of Belforte and Gazzuolo, in a convivial atmosphere that draws visitors from all over the province.
Festa d'la Rana — edition 2026
The 2026 edition, the 29th, will take place in July in Belforte, a hamlet of Gazzuolo. The festival, organised by Circolo La Torre, will feature the territory's De.Co. dishes: stracotto d'asino alla belfortese, frittata di rane alla belfortese, and risotto alla belfortese. The official dates, following the mid-July 2025 edition, will be confirmed by the organisers in the weeks prior.
