The Ferragosto Festival at Duere is one of the many mountain festivals that liven up the Valtellina in the heart of summer. It takes place in Duere, a hamlet of the Municipality of Grosotto, in the province of Sondrio, and celebrates August 15th with the slow and genuine rhythm of Alpine traditions. It is one of those festivals that do not seek spectacularity, but the value of being together around a dish and a mountain church.

Mass and pizzoccherata

The day begins with Holy Mass at 10:00 AM at the Duere church, a moment of reflection and meeting for the community. Following this, at 12:00 PM, the most anticipated moment: the lunch with pizzoccherata, featuring the famous Valtellina pizzoccheri, the buckwheat pasta dish with savoy cabbage, potatoes, butter, and Casera cheese that is the gastronomic symbol of the entire valley. A convivial lunch that brings together residents and holidaymakers until the early afternoon.

A community festival

Organized by the Fabbriceria Duere, the festival is an example of how small mountain hamlets preserve their traditions, intertwining devotion and cuisine, faith and conviviality.
