About Ferragosto Valle Magica

Every August 15th, Fattoria Valle Magica in Carapelle Calvisio, nestled in the heart of the Abruzzo mountains near L'Aquila, opens its gates for its annual Ferragosto Festival. Designed for families, the day includes animal petting, all-day music, an arrosticini barbecue, water fights, bubble shows, and the vibrant Holi color festival. It is an authentic, open-air way to experience Ferragosto in the hills of the Navelli Plateau.

Ferragosto on the farm in Carapelle Calvisio

The Ferragosto Festival at Fattoria Valle Magica has become a staple of the Abruzzo summer. It takes place in the Ponte Amaro area of Carapelle Calvisio, a small village in the Province of L'Aquila tucked away in the mountains of the Navelli Plateau, Abruzzo. On August 15th, the traditional Ferragosto holiday, the educational farm transforms into a large open-air party where families and children can spend an entire day immersed in nature and interacting with animals.

A day for the whole family

The program is primarily designed for children, but it is equally engaging for adults. From the morning, the gates open for guests to wander through the farm enclosures, home to rabbits, ducklings, piglets, donkeys, and many other animals that can be approached, observed, and petted. Throughout the day, there are games and activities: giant soap bubbles, cotton candy, face painting, and moments designed to keep children entertained in complete safety.

Music, water games, and Holi colors

The afternoon is the most lively part of the festival. Water fights and water pistols provide a refreshing break from the August heat, the pignatta (piñata) offers surprises for the little ones, and the day ignites with the colors of the Holi festival, painting the air and everyone's smiles. Music accompanies the entire day, from morning until evening. Children can also enjoy a donkey or pony ride as an additional activity.

Barbecue and Abruzzo arrosticini

Local flavors are the stars at the table. From early afternoon, the shared barbecues are fired up, and by evening, the famous arrosticini—the symbol of Abruzzo's culinary tradition—are served, accompanied by specialties, side dishes, desserts, and drinks. Seating is assigned, and participation in the barbecue must be booked in advance. The festivities continue late into the evening with music and conviviality.

An authentic experience in Abruzzo

Fattoria Valle Magica is an educational farm that offers visits and hands-on learning experiences with animals throughout the year. The Ferragosto Festival is the most popular event of the summer season and a perfect opportunity to discover the genuine hospitality of the L'Aquila mountains, far from the crowds and close to nature.
