Campanian breweries, street food, and live music in the park of Villa Mascolo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Fermenti Reali is a festival dedicated to craft beer, fermentation, and local cuisine, held every autumn in Portici, a city in the Metropolitan City of Naples overlooking the gulf in Campania. The initiative is promoted and organized by the municipal administration with the aim of enhancing the city's historical, landscape, and cultural heritage while strengthening its tourist appeal, all while promoting a culture of responsible drinking.
The first edition took place from September 29th to October 1st, 2023, in the riding stables of the Royal Palace of Portici, one of the most evocative locations along the Vesuvius 'Golden Mile'. Since 2024, the event has moved to the park of Villa Mascolo on Via Cristoforo Colombo, a green space in the heart of the city that transforms into a village of taste and music for three evenings.
The heart of the event is the selection of craft breweries, almost all from Campania, which present their products to the public and share their craft. Past participants have included:
The event is endorsed by Unionbirrai, the association of small independent Italian breweries, confirming its focus on quality beer rather than a generalist approach.
Alongside the beer taps, the gastronomic offerings highlight the most popular and recognizable flavors of Campania: fried pizza, montanare, caciocavallo impiccato (hanging caciocavallo cheese), arrosticini, and other regional street food specialties, with attention to food intolerances and gluten-free options. The result is a festival where craft beer pairs with authentic local flavors rather than a typical fair format.
Fermenti Reali is more than just tastings: the program includes masterclasses led by qualified experts, covering the fundamentals of tasting, beer styles, and pairings โ such as beer and cheese or beer and Tuscan cigars. Each evening, a concert or show enlivens the park until late, with plenty of room for local artists.
A portion of the proceeds is donated to scholarships for Portici students who submit a project on the city's historical and cultural heritage: a way to link the festival to the community and local knowledge. Recent editions have also featured a dog area, confirming the family-friendly and accessible nature of the event, which remains an evening gathering for an adult audience regarding alcohol consumption.
The event is traditionally held in October, from Friday to Sunday, in the evening. It is an excellent opportunity to discover Portici, the Royal Palace, and the Golden Mile during a quieter time of year compared to the high season, combining a visit to the Vesuvius heritage with an evening of craft beer and Campanian cuisine.
After three editions hosted in the Royal Palace riding stables (2023) and the Villa Mascolo park (2024 and 2025), Fermenti Reali is expected to return to Portici in autumn 2026. As of the update of this page, the Municipality of Portici, which promotes and organizes the event, has not yet published the official dates, the final venue, or the list of participating breweries.
Previous editions were held in October, from Friday to Sunday, in the evening: it is reasonable to expect a similar schedule, but nothing is confirmed at the moment. To find out about dates, musical programs, and pre-sale methods, it is best to follow the official channels of the Municipality of Portici and the Facebook page dedicated to the event.
Portici can be reached by train via the Circumvesuviana (Naples-Sorrento and Naples-Poggiomarino lines, stops: Portici Bellavista and Portici Via Libertร ) or the Naples-Salerno railway line, Portici-Ercolano station. By car, take the Portici-Ercolano exit on the A3 Naples-Salerno motorway; parking in the area is limited, so public transport is recommended. The nearest airport is Naples-Capodichino, about 12 km away.
Villa Mascolo Park, Via Cristoforo Colombo 69, 80055 Portici (NA). In the first edition, 2023, the event was held at the Royal Palace riding stables.
In recent editions, the entrance fee was 10 euros per person, with 8 euros returned in tokens to spend in the food area and 2 euros as an access fee; open from 7:00 PM to 1:00 AM, with beer and food service until midnight. Online pre-sale is available to avoid queues. Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and cannot purchase alcoholic beverages.
October evenings outdoors can be cool: a light jacket is recommended. Those arriving in the afternoon can combine the festival with a visit to the Royal Palace of Portici and its Botanical Gardens, or the Herculaneum excavations, just a few minutes away.
