The traditional agricultural and livestock fair of the Biella countryside
Every year at the end of March, the town of Sandigliano in the province of Biella (Piedmont) comes alive for the Fera d'la Caplina, one of the most cherished and deeply rooted agricultural fairs in the Biella area. Established in the mid-nineties and organized by the Sandigliano Pro Loco with municipal support, the event has grown with every edition to become a landmark occasion not just for the town, but for the entire province of Biella.
The heart of the Fera remains the livestock exhibition: recent editions have gathered over two hundred head of cattle, a source of pride for local breeders and a chance to rediscover the rural world that remains a core part of the Biella identity. Alongside the animals, visitors can explore displays of agricultural machinery, a showcase of vintage motorcycles, and a market of artisanal and local products that brings the town's streets and squares to life.
The Fera d'la Caplina is more than just an exhibition; it is, above all, a celebration of community. Gastronomic stalls offer traditional flavors, while the grand rustic dinner on Friday evening and the Sunday lunch fill tables with hundreds of guests. The soundtrack is provided by live music, which accompanies the evenings and the vibrant village atmosphere. It is an event that champions local products and puts the community at the center.
More than just a simple festival, the Fera d'la Caplina is a collective ritual that weaves together agriculture, craftsmanship, and gastronomy. For those visiting Sandigliano and the Biella area at the end of winter, it is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the rural culture of northeastern Piedmont, amidst exhibitions, markets, and genuine local dishes.
