The heart of the festival remains its religious core: the solemn Eucharistic celebration in the church dedicated to the Saint and the procession of the statue of Saint Anthony through the streets of the historic center, accompanied by sacred hymns, confraternities, and the participation of the faithful. A particularly poignant moment is the symbolic handing over of the city keys to the Patron Saint by the Mayor, a gesture that precedes the procession and underscores its communal value.

Lights, music, and festivities

The street festival develops around this devotion. The artistic light displays, an authentic art form of Salento, illuminate the town's streets and squares, creating light scenographies that define the evenings. There is no shortage of brass band concerts, featuring traditional bandstands, as well as performances of pop music and traditional Salento folk music, where the rhythms of the pizzica take center stage. Food stalls offer traditional flavors—frise, panzerotti, pittule, and local sweets—while craft markets enliven the promenade.

Fireworks

As per the tradition of Apulian patronal festivals, the concluding moment is entrusted to a fireworks display, which closes the celebrations by lighting up the sky of Poggiardo and bringing together residents and visitors from neighboring Salento towns in a single gaze.
