The celebration on the summit of Mount Caucasus, between faith and memory
The Feast of Our Lady of Peace is celebrated on the summit of Mount Caucasus, in the municipality of Lorsica, in the hinterland of the metropolitan city of Genoa, on the border between Val Fontanabuona and Val d'Aveto. On the summit stands a small chapel-refuge dedicated to Our Lady of Peace, built in 1940 and restored several times.
The celebration, which began in the seventies, has a strong commemorative value: it remembers the fallen and celebrates peace. From the hamlet of Barbagelata, the faithful gather and climb towards the summit, where the flag-raising and religious moments take place. A Mass in suffrage of the fallen is celebrated in the church of Barbagelata.
The event, held on the first Sundays of September, combines the spiritual dimension with the convivial one: at the refuge, it is possible to book meals or bring your own lunch, sharing a day at altitude. An authentic and intimate festival, deeply linked to the identity of the community of Lorsica and its splendid mountain hinterland.
The 2026 edition of the Feast of Our Lady of Peace renews the celebration on the summit of Mount Caucasus, in the municipality of Lorsica. The festival, traditionally held on the first Sundays of September, combines religious devotion and commemoration of the fallen.
The program includes gathering in Barbagelata in the morning, ascent to the summit chapel for the flag-raising and the Mass in suffrage of the fallen in the church of Barbagelata, followed by convivial moments at the refuge. The precise date will be announced in the weeks preceding the event.
