Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Guglionesi
The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is one of the most heartfelt religious observances in Guglionesi, a village in Basso Molise in the province of Campobasso. The Madonna del Carmine is affectionately called "a Madonn dj pajlall" here, after the ancient woven straw basket that traditionally accompanies the festival. The liturgical feast day is July 16th, with celebrations concentrated on the closest days.
Bands, Masses, and Procession
The program intertwines faith, music, and tradition: the traditional brass band matinee in Piazza XXIV Maggio, solemn masses in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the solemn evening procession through the town streets, and grand brass band concerts that liven up the evenings. The festival is organized by the parish with the participation of the entire community.
A Popular Devotion
The event attracts citizens and returning emigrants every year, intertwining devotional aspects with a town square celebration. It is one of the events that mark the Guglionesi summer and testify to the deep bond between the Molise community and its religious traditions.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel — edition 2026
In 2026 too, Guglionesi will celebrate Our Lady of Mount Carmel in July, around the liturgical feast day of the 16th. Based on previous editions, the festival includes brass band matinees in Piazza XXIV Maggio, solemn masses in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, the evening procession, and brass band concerts. The program with dates and times will be published by the parish in the preceding weeks.

- Late Evening — grand brass band concert in Piazza XXIV Maggio
