Celebrations in honor of Maria SS. del Pozzo and Saint John the Baptist, blending faith, the La Scamiciata pageant, and major concerts in Piazza Ciaia.
Every year in mid-June, the town of Fasano, in the province of Brindisi, comes to a standstill to pay tribute to its patron saints: Maria SS. del Pozzo (the Madonna of Pozzo Faceto) and Saint John the Baptist. The Patronal Festival is the most defining moment of the year for Fasano, drawing thousands of people to the city and transforming Piazza Ciaia, the Portici delle Teresiane, and Piazza Mercato Vecchio into a single, massive open-air stage, illuminated by the famous musical artistic lights.
Few festivals in Puglia blend the religious and civil dimensions as seamlessly as this one. The days begin with the triduum and services at the Church of the Assunta and are marked by the translation of the sacred images, the gala procession, and solemn rites in honor of the Patroness. Surrounding this devotional core is a rich calendar of popular events, band concerts, folk performances, and shows for all ages.
The most spectacular moment is the historical re-enactment of La Scamiciata, organized by the Committee for the Fasano June. The grand historical pageant in costume commemorates the victory that the people of Fasano achieved over the Ottoman Turks on June 2, 1678, attributed by devotion to the intercession of the Madonna of Pozzo Faceto. After decades of raids along the coast, the population defeated the attackers under the city walls: since then, as a sign of gratitude, the tradition of the "popular tournament" has been inextricably linked to the festival of the Patroness. The modern re-enactment, revived in 1978 for the third centenary, parades through the streets of the center with hundreds of extras, flag-wavers, and scenes depicting the city's triumph.
Alongside tradition, the Fasano Patronal Festival is famous for its free concerts in Piazza Ciaia, which bring top names in Italian music to the Adriatic Salento every year. The evenings conclude with spectacular fireworks displays that light up the sky over the historic center, attracting audiences from across the Province of Brindisi and the nearby Itria Valley.
Included in the city's broader summer schedule, the festival represents the official start of the event season in Fasano and is one of the most beloved traditional appointments in Puglia. Those visiting the city during these days will find a rare combination of spirituality, history, local gastronomy, and grand popular entertainment, all immersed in the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the South.
From June 18 to 22, 2026, Fasano celebrated its Patronal Festival in honor of Maria SS. del Pozzo and Saint John the Baptist. The program combined religious rites, the historical re-enactment of La Scamiciata, artistic illuminations, and major free concerts in Piazza Ciaia.
The highlight of the evening came on June 22 with the free concert by The Kolors: led by Stash, the group retraced their discography from 2015 to 2025, closing with the European hit "Italodisco" before a completely packed Piazza Ciaia. The evening was opened by the Fasano singer Antonella Losavio.
The previous evening, June 21, the square hosted a concert by Paolo Meneguzzi, followed by a fireworks display. A key identity moment of the festivities, the historical pageant of La Scamiciata paraded on June 20, starting from the Villa Comunale.
Friday, June 19 โ Translation of the sacred images; "Emotion Fireworks" display; "MusichiAmo Fasano" in Piazza Ciaia.
