A magical portal in the Guidonia pine forest

Every July, the Via Roma pine forest, located just a stone's throw from the Guidonia Montecelio military airport, becomes the Celtic heart of the Lazio region. Over seventeen editions, the Fairylands Celtic Festival has grown into the largest event dedicated to Celtic and Nordic culture in Central and Southern Italy, attracting tens of thousands of visitors over five days. The natural setting does half the work: the shade of the pines, the evening campfires, and the sound of bagpipes make it easy to forget you are on the eastern outskirts of the Metropolitan City of Rome.

Live music: from Irish folk to tribal rhythms

The main stage is the festival's nerve center. Each evening features a rotation of Italian and international artists from the Celtic, folk, and tribal scenes: pipe bands leading processions to open the night, Irish fiddles, drums, and bagpipes that keep the crowd going until late. The program balances historic names from the Italian folk scene with international guests, with a special focus on dance music—it's not uncommon to see spontaneous dance circles forming in front of the stage.

The Celtic-Norse village

Next to the concert area, a full-scale historical village comes to life. Re-enactment groups set up camps, tents, and workshops, showcasing the daily life, crafts, and combat techniques of Celtic and Norse peoples. Throughout the day, the schedule includes:

• Historical combat and ancient fencing demonstrations;
• Falconry, with flight displays of birds of prey;
• Archery and axe throwing, with instructors available for beginners;
• Irish dancing and workshops open to the public;
• Talks and storytelling sessions on myths, sagas, and ancestral traditions.

Crafts, fantasy, and markets

Over forty stalls line the paths of the pine forest: handmade jewelry, leather goods, drinking horns, costumes and cloaks, swords and historical replicas, as well as fantasy illustrations and merchandise. The imaginative element is an integral part of the festival's identity, which has always engaged with the Tolkienian universe and contemporary fantasy culture; many visitors arrive in costume, adding to the immersive atmosphere.

Gastronomy: beer, cider, and tavern fare

Numerous food stalls remain open until late in the evening. Alongside traditional Lazio dishes, you will find Celtic and Nordic-inspired offerings—grilled meats, stews, and charcuterie boards—paired with a curated selection of craft beers and cider, the festival's signature drink. The taverns are among the most vibrant social hubs of the event.

A free event for all ages

One of Fairylands' defining features is that it is completely free: there is no admission fee for either the concert area or the village. The organizers maintain this policy to ensure that the discovery of Celtic culture remains accessible to everyone. There is plenty of space dedicated to children, with games, workshops, and themed entertainment, making it one of the few events in Lazio truly designed for both families and the most demanding enthusiasts.
