The June 2nd fair that opens summer in Querciola, on the Bolognese Apennines
Every year, on the occasion of June 2nd, the hamlet of Querciola, in the Municipality of Lizzano in Belvedere (Metropolitan City of Bologna, Emilia-Romagna), comes alive for the Fair from Dawn to Dusk, also called "Waiting for Summer." It is one of the most cherished events in the community of the upper Bolognese Apennines: a market that winds through the village streets and, as the name suggests, accompanies visitors from morning until sunset.
The fair maintains the authentic character of mountain festivals: stalls offering typical products, crafts, clothing, and various items are set up along the streets of Querciola, while the culinary heart of the day is entrusted to the Pro Loco Querciola food stands, where you can taste traditional Apennine dishes. The day is designed for families, hikers, and holidaymakers who begin to populate the villages of the Corno alle Scale area with the arrival of the warm season.
Querciola is the "youngest" village in the Belvedere area: its parish was established only at the beginning of the 20th century. According to tradition, the village was founded around a small oak tree on which, in the 19th century, a devotional image of the Madonna was placed; the church of the Beata Vergine della Querciola was elevated to a sanctuary in 1913 and to a parish in 1931. Located at about 900 meters above sea level at the foot of Monte Belvedere, the village preserves the memory of the Gothic Line from World War II and has always been linked to pastoralism and the production of mountain Parmigiano Reggiano.
The Fair from Dawn to Dusk — Waiting for Summer returned to Querciola (Lizzano in Belvedere, BO) on June 2nd, 2026, approximately from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Along the village streets, traditional market stalls were set up, offering local products, crafts, and various items, while the Pro Loco Querciola managed the food stands featuring traditional Apennine dishes.
As it is a village fair, the program does not include a schedule of performances but rather the classic formula of an open-air market and conviviality: a day that the community of Querciola dedicates to the opening of the warm season at the foot of Corno alle Scale.
The event follows the established format of a village fair, without a published artistic program:
Querciola is a hamlet of Lizzano in Belvedere, in the upper Bolognese Apennines. By car, you can reach it from the SS64 Porrettana up to Silla or Lizzano in Belvedere, then continue towards the Corno alle Scale area. The nearest train station is Porretta Terme, on the Bologna–Pistoia line, from which you can continue by car or local transport.
The fair is held on June 2nd, typically from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, along the streets of the village of Querciola.
Free admission. Purchases at the stalls and food stands are at your own expense.
