The European Museum Night is an annual event that involves thousands of cultural institutions across Europe, with extraordinary evening openings at a symbolic fee. In Spoleto, in the province of Perugia, the initiative involves the city's main cultural sites: the National Archaeological Museum with the adjacent Roman Theatre and the Rocca Albornoz, a 14th-century fortress overlooking the city.
Tours, concerts, and nocturnal suggestions
The program combines guided tours of artifacts and monuments, early music concerts, and experiential initiatives designed to bring the museums to life in an unprecedented atmosphere, far from the usual daytime visit. It's an opportunity to discover Spoleto's history, from its Roman roots to the Renaissance, accompanied by the voices of guides and musicians.
A millenary heritage
Spoleto holds archaeological and monumental heritage of great importance: the Roman Theatre of the Augustan era, the remains of Piazza d'Armi, the Rocca Alborziana commissioned in the 14th century. The European Museum Night enhances this treasure by bringing residents and visitors closer to the ancient heart of the Umbrian city.
Museum Night Spoleto — edition 2026
The European Museum Night 2026 took place in Spoleto on Saturday, May 23. The National Archaeological Museum and the Roman Theatre opened in the evening (6:30 PM - 10:15 PM, last entry 9:45 PM) for the symbolic price of 1 euro, with a guided night tour of the Piazza d'Armi artifacts curated by director Silvia Casciarri. At the Rocca Albornoz, the program offered themed experiences. The evening was preceded by an early music concert in the church of Sant'Agata.

Sant'Agata Church
- 6:00 PM — concert "La triosonata in Germania" with the Ensemble Luciminia (baroque violin, viola da gamba, and harpsichord, European repertoire of the 17th-18th centuries); booking required via Eventbrite
National Archaeological Museum and Roman Theatre
- 6:30 PM - 10:15 PM (last entry 9:45 PM) — evening opening for 1 euro
- Guided night tour of the Piazza d'Armi artifacts with director Silvia Casciarri (included in the ticket)
Rocca Albornoz
- 6:30 PM — "Murder by Moonlight", an interactive game-performance (15 euros, limited seats, mandatory booking)
- 9:30 PM — "Lucrezia Borgia: lights and shadows of a Renaissance woman", a moonlit guided tour (5 euros + 1 euro Rocca entrance, or Spoleto Card)

How to get there
By train: Spoleto station on the Rome-Ancona line. By car: Spoleto exit of the SS3 Flaminia. The National Archaeological Museum and the Roman Theatre are located at Via Sant'Agata 18/a, in the historic center.
