A historic festival in the heart of an extinct volcano

Estate Roccana is the event that has defined the warm months in Roccamonfina for decades. Located in the Alto Casertano area, the town is nestled within the caldera of an extinct volcano in the province of Caserta, Campania. This is no newcomer to the festival scene: as early as 2019, the town was already announcing its 62nd edition, a rare sign of continuity for a small municipality. The format remains unchanged: a widespread program that fills the village center with music, shows, and traditional folk festivities throughout July and August.

Piazza Nicola Amore, the natural stage

The heart of the festival is Piazza Nicola Amore, Roccamonfina's open-air living room, which fills to capacity on peak evenings. The stage is set up outdoors, and the audience watches from the square, sitting on the steps or at café tables—creating a village-fair atmosphere, yet often featuring big names from the national music scene. The village's location on the crater slopes ensures cooler evenings than on the plains, even in mid-August, which is why Roccamonfina has long been a favorite summer retreat for families from the Garigliano plain and the Teano and Sessa Aurunca areas.

The 2026 edition and the new Foundation

2026 marks a turning point in terms of organization. The «Roccamonfina: History, Culture and Traditions» Foundation has been established, chaired by Luigi Maria Verrengia with Ivan Di Pippo as vice-president. It is now responsible for planning and managing major local events: Estate Roccana, the Maxi PGI Chestnut and Porcini Mushroom Festival, and the Christmas program. The stated goal is to ensure continuous cultural and tourist offerings throughout the year and to promote local excellence.

Due to the administrative elections and the birth of this new legal entity, the 2026 calendar was released a few weeks later than in previous years and is being rolled out in stages. The first announced event is a concert by Andrea Sannino, scheduled for Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 10:00 PM in Piazza Nicola Amore, with free admission; other names in the lineup will be announced in the following days.

Recent years: from Mogol to Malgioglio

To understand the scale of the event, one only needs to look at the 2025 edition, organized by the municipal administration led by Mayor Carlo Montefusco under the patronage of the Roccamonfina-Foce del Garigliano Regional Park. On August 12, Maestro Mogol, accompanied by Gianmarco Carroccia, brought the repertoire of Lucio Battisti to the square before a crowd that filled every corner. August 15 featured the grand Ferragosto concert with De Crescenzo, Eddy Napoli, and the Luna Rossa Orchestra (a group linked to Renzo Arbore's orchestra), while Cristiano Malgioglio took the stage on August 17. Alongside the concerts, the float parade on August 14 and 15 and more intimate events, such as the friendship chess tournament at the end of the month, rounded out the program.

A village worth the trip

Those who travel up to Roccamonfina for an evening of Estate Roccana will find much more than just a concert. The town is the main hub of the volcanic district that gives its name to the Regional Park, a territory of forests and chestnut groves that produce two of the delicacies celebrated every autumn by the Maxi Festival: the PGI chestnut and the porcini mushroom. Combining an evening show in the square with a day of hiking in the crater and a meal featuring Alto Casertano products is the best way to experience this festival, which remains one of the defining events of summer in this part of Campania.
