The historic Ferragosto festival in Le Poggiola, featuring goose, handmade macaroni, and village celebrations.
The Ferragosto Puggiulino is one of the oldest and most beloved village festivals in the Arezzo area. With roots dating back to the 19th century, it draws thousands of people every summer to Le Poggiola—a hamlet in the municipality of Arezzo, in the heart of the Valdichiana—in search of authentic village conviviality. In 2025, the festival celebrated its 147th edition, while the Goose and Macaroni Festival marked its 45th: figures that speak volumes about the strength of a tradition passed down through generations by the local community.
The name of the festival itself reveals its two signature dishes. The ocio—goose in the local Arezzo dialect—is prepared according to traditional peasant recipes, while the maccarone is pasta strictly made by hand by the local volunteers. Surrounding these two protagonists, the food stalls offer a rich selection of Tuscan and Arezzo specialties every evening, accompanied by local wines. It is the long-standing tradition of village dining, where quality is born from the collective work of an entire community.
The Ferragosto Puggiulino is not just about gastronomy. Every evening after dinner, the stage lights up with live music, dance orchestras, comedy and entertainment shows, theatrical performances by local companies, and moments dedicated to children. The folkloric highlight is the Palio dei Rioni, featuring a parade and a competition between the hamlet's districts held traditionally on Sunday, preceded by mass: a deeply felt event that strengthens the identity of the Puggiulino community.
Beyond good food and fun, in recent years the Ferragosto Puggiulino has made space for social awareness initiatives, supporting campaigns against gender-based violence and backing local causes: a sign of the vitality of a festival that remains deeply rooted in village life.
The event takes place at the A.N.S.P.I. Cultural Club in Le Poggiola, Arezzo, and is traditionally spread over two weekends in August around the Ferragosto holiday. It is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Province of Arezzo and Tuscany, far from the most beaten tourist paths, where summer is still lived around the festival tables.
After 147 years of history, the Ferragosto Puggiulino lights up again in 2026 in Le Poggiola, a hamlet of Arezzo. The event takes place over two weekends: from August 13 to 16 and from August 20 to 23, 2026. The signature dishes of the Goose and Macaroni Festival—goose and hand-rolled macaroni—are confirmed, along with a rich calendar of live music, dancing, shows, and the Palio dei Rioni.
