«Encounters with Music at Villa Giulia» is the chamber music festival that brings the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia (ETRU) in Rome to life every September. Curated by Promu – All For Music, the initiative began in 2021 and has quickly become one of the most elegant events of the late Roman summer, blending a grand chamber repertoire with one of the city's most evocative settings.

The venue is no mere detail: Villa Giulia, a stunning 16th-century residence commissioned by Pope Julius III in Rome's Municipio II, houses the world's most important museum dedicated to Etruscan civilization. For this occasion, the museum opens its doors at night, transforming into a true «sound temple». The audience wanders through the galleries and the central garden before taking their seats for the concert, following a path that weaves together archaeology, architecture, and music.

The evening format

Each evening follows a familiar ritual: the museum opens in the late afternoon, followed by a welcome aperitif, a tour of the collections, and finally the concert itself. Performances are often accompanied by brief introductory talks led by a composer or musicologist, who guides the audience through the pieces and makes classical music accessible even to those new to the genre.

A composer for every edition

The festival's hallmark is its monographic focus: each edition revolves around a great composer. Past editions have featured Franz Schubert, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, and in 2025, Johannes Brahms with the fifth edition, «Encounters with Brahms». Surrounding the featured composer, the programs incorporate works by other authors—from the 20th-century sounds of Shostakovich to the atmospheres of Ravel—offering a carefully curated listening experience each night.

International performers

The stage at Villa Giulia hosts top-tier soloists and chamber ensembles: string quartets, piano trios, violin and piano duos, and even larger sextet formations. The festival attracts established names from the international concert scene alongside young talents already celebrated in major competitions.
