Interazioni Festival

A dance and performance festival in the heart of Rome

Interazioni Festival is one of the most original events on the Roman scene dedicated to contemporary dance and the performing arts. Conceived and directed by choreographer Salvo Lombardo for the cultural association Chiasma—a dance production body recognized by the Ministry of Culture—the festival takes place annually between September and October in the city of Rome, within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Lazio region.

A polycentric project in the city's eastern quadrant

Since its inception, Interazioni has adopted a polycentric structure, inhabiting various spaces across the city. Over the years, the festival has traversed the Goethe-Institut, Teatro Palladium, Villetta Social Lab, and Ostudio in Torpignattara, before moving to the eastern quadrant of the Capital, between the Centrale Preneste and Spazio Diamante. This mobile geography is an integral part of the project: the festival does not merely host performances, but actively builds a network of relationships between artists, audiences, works, and places.

A multidisciplinary and international program

The Interazioni program weaves together diverse languages and formats:

• Dance and performance shows, often presented as national premieres;
• Video and performance installations that engage with the spaces;
• Workshops and shared practices with Italian and international artists;
• Talks, theoretical meetings, and book presentations.

Recent editions have welcomed artists from all over Europe and the rest of the world, making Rome a meeting point between the Italian scene and international performance research.

Themes and critical perspective

Interazioni is more than just a showcase for performances: it is a project that places contemporary critical thought at its center. Its editions have addressed themes such as decolonial and postcolonial perspectives, feminism and transfeminism, LGBTQ+ identities, accessibility, and the relationship between memory and imagination. The body on stage thus becomes a tool for questioning society, history, and the present.

A benchmark for the independent scene

Supported by the Ministry of Culture, SIAE, Roma Capitale, and realized with the backing of Zètema Progetto Cultura in collaboration with ATCL – Associazione Teatrale fra i Comuni del Lazio, Interazioni Festival has established itself as one of the most anticipated events for those following contemporary dance and performance in Lazio. An independent, bold, and open festival that offers the city of Rome a different perspective on the arts of the body every autumn.
