Indie, rock, and electronic music in the Valley of the Temples, Agrigento
The Ellenic Music Festival is one of Sicily's most ambitious musical projects. Launched in 2021, it is held in Agrigento, in the heart of the Valley of the Temples Archaeological Park, one of the most famous UNESCO sites in the Mediterranean. The festival has made the Teatro Panoramica dei Templi its home—a natural amphitheater overlooking the hill of the Doric temples. Attending a concert at sunset, with the Greek temples illuminated in the background, is an experience few festivals in the world can offer.
From the very beginning, the Ellenic has focused on a precise artistic direction, steering clear of mainstream programming: high-quality independent, rock, and electronic music featuring both Italian and international artists. Over the years, the festival has consistently raised the bar, hosting names such as Editors, Planet Funk, Vitalic, Fujiya & Miyagi, Rival Consoles, Marlene Kuntz, The Notwist, Subsonica, Motta, Colapesce, and Andy from Bluvertigo. This vision has helped establish Agrigento as a key destination for the alternative scene, especially during the city's tenure as the Italian Capital of Culture.
For 2026, the Ellenic Music Festival continues its growth with two nights on August 22nd and 23rd. The first day is dedicated to singer-songwriters with Niccolò Fabi accompanied by Gaia Banfi, while the second day turns up the volume with two pillars of European electronica: the Norwegian duo Röyksopp and the German act Digitalism. As noted by the local press, the program places Agrigento on par with the great stages of Europe.
The provincial capital of southwestern Sicily, Agrigento, is world-renowned for its Valley of the Temples, the largest Greek archaeological site outside of Greece. The festival leverages this extraordinary heritage to offer an experience that blends music, landscape, and ancient history during one of the most evocative seasons of the Sicilian summer.
The fifth season of the Ellenic Music Festival confirms the international ambition of the Agrigento event, with two high-profile evenings in the heart of the Valley of the Temples. Local press describes a festival that is "raising the bar" and bringing Agrigento to the level of major European stages.
