About Naples Easter Fair

For about two weeks, between late March and mid-April, the historic centre of Naples fills with white stalls: it is the Easter Fair, a major open-air event authorised by the Municipality of Naples within the 2nd Municipality. Piazza Dante, Piazza Carità - Salvo D'Acquisto, and Piazza Mercato host over a hundred stalls dedicated to traditional Neapolitan Holy Week delicacies (casatiello, tortano, pastiera, colomba cakes, and chocolate eggs) as well as local crafts in ceramic, glass, wood, copper, and leather. Admission is free.

A widespread fair in the heart of Naples

In the weeks leading up to Easter, the historic centre of Naples transforms: long rows of white stalls occupy the city's most popular squares, bringing to life the Easter Fair, an open-air commercial event authorised by the Municipality of Naples within the 2nd Municipality, which includes the Avvocata, Montecalvario, San Giuseppe, and Porto districts. This is not just a single market, but a widespread fair that stretches from the Rione Carità area to the historic Piazza Mercato, following the axis of Via Toledo and the Decumani.

It is one of the most popular events in the spring calendar of the capital of Campania: an open-air stroll that combines gastronomic shopping, craftsmanship, and the quintessentially Neapolitan ritual of browsing the stalls in the days leading up to Easter Sunday.

The squares and the numbers

For the 2026 edition, the Municipality has authorised 101 stalls, distributed across some of the iconic squares of the metropolitan city of Naples:

  • Piazza Dante (Avvocata district) - 34 stalls: the largest hub of the fair, at the foot of the 18th-century hemicycle of the Foro Carolino and a stone's throw from Port'Alba and the Decumani.
  • Piazza Mercato (Mercato district) - 30 stalls: the square that has been the popular commercial heart of Naples for centuries, in the shadow of the Basilica del Carmine Maggiore.
  • Piazza Carità - Piazza Salvo D'Acquisto (San Giuseppe district) - 18 stalls: just a few steps from the Pignasecca market and the pedestrianised stretch of Via Toledo.
  • Via Cervantes - 10 stalls.
  • Via Diaz - 9 stalls.

The same event extends, with separately managed stalls, to the Vomero area (Piazza degli Artisti) and the Chiaia and Lungomare districts (Via Cesario Console and Piazza San Pasquale), but the centre of gravity remains the historic district.

The flavours of the Neapolitan Holy Week

The gastronomic section is what draws the most visitors. On the stalls, you will find the great classics of the Neapolitan Easter table: casatiello and tortano, rustic bread dough enriched with cheese and cured meats; pastiera, the wheat and ricotta cake scented with orange blossom water; colomba cakes, and the inevitable chocolate eggs, often accompanied by chocolate bunnies and Easter-themed treats of all sizes. Alongside baked goods, there is no shortage of cured meats, cheeses, preserves, and regional confectionery specialities.

Craftsmanship and traditional objects

The fair is not just about food. A significant portion of the stalls is reserved for quality craftsmanship: handmade items in ceramic, glass, wood, copper, wrought iron, and leather, costume jewellery, home decor, and classic souvenirs of the Neapolitan tradition, from lucky horns to Pulcinella figurines, as well as small pieces of nativity art, antiques, and vintage items. It is the perfect opportunity for those visiting Naples during this period to take home an object truly linked to the local area.

Opening hours, admission, and atmosphere

The stalls remain open continuously from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with extended hours until midnight on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, the days of highest footfall. Admission is free and no booking is required: you can enter and leave the squares freely. In the days leading up to Palm Sunday and Easter, the streets of the centre are particularly crowded, with a flow of residents and tourists that the Municipality of Naples supports every year with extraordinary enhancements to transport, cleaning services, and municipal police presence.

A walking itinerary through the stalls

The best way to experience the Easter Fair is on foot. You can start from Piazza Dante, walk up Via Toledo to Piazza Carità and the nearby Pignasecca, then head down towards Via Diaz and Via Cervantes and, with a longer walk, reach Piazza Mercato in the lower part of the city. It is a route that crosses some of the most distinctive districts of Naples and, at this time of year, is enriched by the scents, colours, and voices typical of the popular tradition of Campania.

Naples Easter Fair — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Easter Fair took place from March 27 to April 13 in the historic centre of Naples, with 101 stalls authorised by the Municipality in the 2nd Municipality area. The main hub was in Piazza Dante (34 stalls), followed by Piazza Mercato (30), Piazza Carità - Salvo D'Acquisto (18), Via Cervantes (10), and Via Diaz (9). Stalls were open from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM and until midnight on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Free admission.

With Easter falling on April 5, the 2026 fair covered two full weeks of preparations, opening on Friday, March 27 and closing on Monday, April 13. The Municipality of Naples authorised 101 stalls in the districts of the 2nd Municipality (Avvocata, Montecalvario, San Giuseppe, and Porto), re-proposing the well-established formula of a widespread fair between Piazza Dante, the Rione Carità, and Piazza Mercato.

On the stalls, as per tradition, were the products of the Neapolitan Holy Week - casatielli, tortani, pastiere, colomba cakes, and chocolate eggs - alongside local crafts in ceramic, glass, wood, copper, and leather. In parallel, the Municipality activated, between April 3 and 7, an extraordinary plan to enhance city services (public transport, info-points, cleaning, and municipal police presence) to manage the influx of the Easter holidays.
