About Earth Festival

Every spring, the Earth Festival transforms the village of Pitigliano, in the heart of the Grosseto Maremma, into a vibrant hub dedicated to the environment, rural traditions, and local produce. For three days, Piazza della Repubblica hosts a market of local crafts and food, a food stand, nature excursions, children's games, and live concerts. Organized by the Pro Loco L'Orso with municipal support, the festival blends entertainment with environmental awareness, featuring the evocative Corteo del Villano, which re-enacts traditional rural life.

The Earth Festival in Pitigliano

In the village perched on tuff rock in Pitigliano, in the province of Grosseto and the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, the Earth Festival has become a highly anticipated spring event. For three days, the historic center of the so-called City of Tuff comes alive with markets, meetings, outdoor activities, and performances, all centered around a clear theme: celebrating the earth and raising awareness about environmental sustainability.

An event dedicated to nature and tradition

The festival was created to strengthen the bond between the community and its land, rediscovering the Maremma's rural roots while promoting an environmentally conscious perspective. The beating heart of the festival is Piazza della Repubblica, which hosts a market of local produce and handicrafts throughout the event, accompanied by a food stand where you can savor local specialties.

The Corteo del Villano

One of the most striking moments is the Corteo del Villano, a historical pageant that brings dances, sketches, and scenes of past rural life to the village streets. Produced with the participation of Promo.fi.ter, the procession winds through the historic center, offering a glimpse into the area's rural past, complete with traditional costumes and old-world atmosphere.

Activities for everyone

The program is designed to engage families, nature lovers, and curious visitors of all ages. Offerings include:

  • nature excursions such as butterfly watching near Parco Alberto Manzi;
  • traditional wooden games for children with the Ludobus;
  • debates and meetings on environmental issues, from recycling to alternative energy, hosted at the Teatro Salvini;
  • concerts and live music to liven up the evenings in the square.

Pitigliano, the City of Tuff

Celebrating in Pitigliano means immersing yourself in one of Tuscany's most scenic villages: a settlement carved into tuff rock, suspended above the valleys, also known as the Little Jerusalem for its historic Jewish community. The Earth Festival is the ideal opportunity to discover the alleys, squares, and traditions of this corner of the Maremma, combining culture, gastronomy, and environmental commitment.

Organization

The event is organized by the Pro Loco L'Orso Pitigliano, with the patronage of the Municipality of Pitigliano, the participation of Promo.fi.ter for the Corteo del Villano, and the contribution of Banca Tema. Admission to the festival areas is free.
