Three days of nature, tradition, and sustainability in the City of Tuff
In the village perched on tuff rock in Pitigliano, in the province of Grosseto and the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, the Earth Festival has become a highly anticipated spring event. For three days, the historic center of the so-called City of Tuff comes alive with markets, meetings, outdoor activities, and performances, all centered around a clear theme: celebrating the earth and raising awareness about environmental sustainability.
The festival was created to strengthen the bond between the community and its land, rediscovering the Maremma's rural roots while promoting an environmentally conscious perspective. The beating heart of the festival is Piazza della Repubblica, which hosts a market of local produce and handicrafts throughout the event, accompanied by a food stand where you can savor local specialties.
One of the most striking moments is the Corteo del Villano, a historical pageant that brings dances, sketches, and scenes of past rural life to the village streets. Produced with the participation of Promo.fi.ter, the procession winds through the historic center, offering a glimpse into the area's rural past, complete with traditional costumes and old-world atmosphere.
The program is designed to engage families, nature lovers, and curious visitors of all ages. Offerings include:
Celebrating in Pitigliano means immersing yourself in one of Tuscany's most scenic villages: a settlement carved into tuff rock, suspended above the valleys, also known as the Little Jerusalem for its historic Jewish community. The Earth Festival is the ideal opportunity to discover the alleys, squares, and traditions of this corner of the Maremma, combining culture, gastronomy, and environmental commitment.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco L'Orso Pitigliano, with the patronage of the Municipality of Pitigliano, the participation of Promo.fi.ter for the Corteo del Villano, and the contribution of Banca Tema. Admission to the festival areas is free.
The 2026 edition of the Earth Festival took place in Pitigliano from May 1st to 3rd, confirming the three-day format dedicated to the environment, traditions, and local products in the historic center of the City of Tuff.
