The chicory that becomes a festival

The Dosson di Casier Late Red Chicory Festival, in the province of Treviso, is one of the most famous winter events in the Marca Trevigiana. The absolute star is the Late Red Chicory of Treviso IGP, a vegetable with a slightly bitter taste and an elegant shape, so much so that it is nicknamed "the flower that is eaten". Grown and "forced" according to an ancient technique in spring water, it is one of the symbolic products of Venetian agriculture.

The stand and the restaurant

The festival takes place in the Via Peschiere area, in Dosson, a hamlet of the Municipality of Casier, and is organized by the Dosson Red Chicory Producers Association. For several weekends between January and February, a free-access food stand and a reservation-only restaurant are set up, where the vegetable becomes the common thread of the entire menu: from first courses to risottos, from main courses to side dishes, up to unexpected sweet proposals.

An excellence of the Marca Trevigiana

Now in its 39th edition, the event is eagerly awaited not only by the inhabitants of the Treviso area but also by gourmets who come from all over the Veneto to discover the thousand variations of late chicory. The festival also represents an opportunity to promote local producers and protect the quality of an IGP-branded product, strongly linked to the identity of the territory.
