About Donne in Corsa

Donne in Corsa is a sporting and charitable event held every November in San Salvo, in the province of Chieti, combining running, walking, and moments of reflection against violence against women. Promoted by the Atletica Velo Club San Salvo with the patronage of the Municipality, the event spans three days that weave together sport, education, and awareness. The proceeds are donated to the "Frida" Anti-Violence Center, a concrete gesture that turns the race into a symbol of freedom, equality, and solidarity.

Running together against gender-based violence

Donne in Corsa is much more than just a race: it has become an autumn tradition in San Salvo, a town on the Trabocchi Coast in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo. Launched in 2023 by the Atletica Velo Club San Salvo, the event puts sport at the service of a social cause, bringing women, men, families, and athletes of all ages to the streets to say no to gender-based violence.

A three-day event

The program of Donne in Corsa extends beyond the Sunday race, spanning an entire weekend that alternates between play, culture, and competition. The three days are designed to engage all generations:

  • Donne in Corsa Kids: a day dedicated to children, to convey the values of respect and equality through play and sport.
  • Conference on gender equality: a moment of in-depth discussion with guests from the world of sport and institutions, dedicated to rights and positive actions to overcome inequalities.
  • The run and walk: the heart of the event, starting from Piazza Papa Giovanni XXIII, open to both competitive runners and those who want to walk in solidarity.

Sport and solidarity

The hallmark of Donne in Corsa is its charitable nature: the entire proceeds from registrations are donated to the "Frida" Anti-Violence Center, managed by the Dafne ETS association, which supports victims of violence in the Vasto area. The race thus becomes a concrete gesture of support, capable of transforming athletic participation into real help.

A community network

The event is made possible by a dense network of associations, schools, and local entities: from the schools of San Salvo and Vasto to the Lions Club, from the Pro Loco to AVIS, and from volunteer groups to sports associations. A web of collaborations that makes Donne in Corsa not just a sporting event, but a true celebration of community and civic commitment in the heart of the Adriatic Abruzzo.

Donne in Corsa — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Donne in Corsa has not yet been officially announced by the Atletica Velo Club San Salvo. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to return to San Salvo in November 2026 with its usual three-day format featuring running, walking, and awareness-raising moments against gender-based violence. Dates and detailed programs will be communicated by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.

The dates and program for the 2026 edition of Donne in Corsa have not yet been announced. The event, which reached its third edition in 2025, is traditionally held in November in San Salvo, in the province of Chieti. We recommend checking the channels of the Atletica Velo Club San Salvo and the local Abruzzo press for updates on the 2026 edition.
