Federico Patellani and the Italy of the Referendum, at MUNAF
On the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the institutional referendum of 1946, the MUNAF – National Museum of Photography in Cinisello Balsamo (Metropolitan City of Milan), housed in Villa Ghirlanda, presents the exhibition 'Donna Repubblica. I Giorni del Referendum'. A photographic journey that retraces one of the founding moments of Italian history.
The protagonist is Federico Patellani, one of the great masters of Italian photojournalism, whose collection of over 620,000 items is preserved at MUNAF. His photographs recount the end of World War II, women's suffrage, the vote on June 2, 1946, between Monarchy and Republic, and the start of the Constituent Assembly. The images capture the moment when Italian women were called to the polls for the first time.
The exhibition is enhanced by an installation by Studio Azzurro, which expands the photographic narrative with a contemporary language. The exhibition, with free admission, is an opportunity to reflect on the value of democratic participation and the contribution of women to the construction of the Republic, in dialogue with the vocation of the Cinisello museum, a national hub dedicated to photography.
Set up at MUNAF in Villa Ghirlanda, the exhibition retraces the end of World War II, women's suffrage, and the Monarchy-Republic referendum through photographs by Federico Patellani, of whom the museum holds over 620,000 items. The exhibition is completed by an installation by Studio Azzurro. The exhibition is free admission, with a vernissage on May 30th at 5:00 PM.
