The patrons of Muggiò

Muggiò — a municipality in the Province of Monza and Brianza, in the Archdiocese of Milan — has Saints Peter and Paul as its patron saints, the two apostles celebrated by the Catholic Church on June 29th. The patronal festival is the most deeply rooted event in the Muggiò community calendar, uniting the religious and civic dimensions of the town.

The parish church

The heart of the celebrations is the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, in Piazza della Chiesa, an imposing Lombard-Gothic building erected at the end of the 19th century, designed by architects Angelo Savoldi and Giovan Battista Borsani: the foundation stone was laid in 1895, and the church opened for worship in 1897. It is here that, on June 29th, solemn Masses are held in honour of the patrons, the central moment of the festival.

Faith and community

The town's festivities gather around the liturgical celebrations, with the participation of parish and civic groups. The festival of Saints Peter and Paul marks the beginning of Muggiò's summer and represents, for a town in Brianza like Muggiò, the moment when the community comes together around its identity and its patrons, in a tradition that is renewed every year.
