A village that becomes a nativity museum

Di Presepe in Presepe is a widespread exhibition of nativity scenes that transforms the historic center of Tonadico every winter. Located at the foot of the Pale di San Martino in the province of Trento, this hamlet of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza turns into a true open-air museum. Throughout the Christmas season, the cobbled alleys, entryways, house niches, and ancient vaults of the village host nearly one hundred nativity scenes crafted by local residents, all of which can be explored freely at any hour.

Handmade artisan nativity scenes

The strength of the event lies in the creativity of local artisans. Families, workshops, kindergartens, artists, and associations bring to life nativity scenes of every shape and material: cribs made of wood, fabric, metal, or clay, ranging from the most miniature — some even tucked inside a walnut shell — to life-sized displays set up in old stables and barns. The exhibition extends beyond the village center into the surrounding countryside, reaching as far as Palazzo Scopoli, the village's historic residence.

The living nativity and the "Presepio nel canto"

Among the many displays, you will find a living nativity scene that recreates the Nativity with costumed actors. Between Christmas and New Year's, the trail is enriched by the "Presepio nel canto", an evening walking tour of the historic center's nativity scenes accompanied by the songs of the Tonadico Parish Choir, which lends the village a cozy and evocative atmosphere.

A tradition of the Primiero valley

Organized by the Circolo Culturale Castel Pietra in collaboration with the local community and the San Martino di Castrozza, Passo Rolle, Primiero and Vanoi Tourism Board, this exhibition is now a staple of Christmas in the Primiero valley.
