A week dedicated to a great author, featuring books, theatre, music, and art
The Dedica Festival is one of the most original and long-standing cultural events in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Its formula is unmistakable: each edition is entirely dedicated to a single great author, whose work is explored through an intense week of meetings, conversations, theatrical performances, cinema, music, art, and books. The guest is present in person, the protagonist of a direct dialogue with the city.
Born in Pordenone in 1995 and organized by the cultural association Thesis, the festival has hosted some of the most important voices in Italian and international literature over the years, building a multidisciplinary journey around each author that intertwines word, image, and performance.
What distinguishes Dedica is precisely its transversal approach: alongside meetings with the author, the program offers theatrical performances, film screenings, concerts, and exhibitions inspired by their work. The main venues are the Teatro Verdi and the former Convento di San Francesco, but the festival also extends to schools, with free workshops, and to numerous municipalities in the region through previews and scattered events.
Among the most heartfelt initiatives is the section "Dedica per il sociale" (Dedica for social inclusion), which brings festival events to care facilities and community centres, making culture accessible to all. A feature that makes Dedica not just a literary event, but a cultural project rooted in the territory.
The Dedica Festival is one of the cornerstones of Pordenone's vibrant cultural season, a city that has applied to be Italian Capital of Culture 2027 and is already known for Pordenonelegge. A week that, every spring, focuses on the value of words and encounters.
The Dedica Festival 2026, 32nd edition, is dedicated to Sorj Chalandon, a French writer and war reporter who has covered conflicts in Northern Ireland, Lebanon, Rwanda, and the Middle East, winner of the Albert-Londres Prize, the most prestigious award in French journalism. His novels explore memory, betrayal, and fatherhood with an essential and vibrant prose.
The festival offers a week of meetings, theatrical performances, cinema, music, and exhibitions, with the author's presence and numerous Italian and international guests, including rapper and writer Kento, photojournalist Patrick Frilet, and artist Pierre Alary.
The festival unfolds over a week of events at the Teatro Verdi, the former Convento di San Francesco, and other city venues, as well as previews in nine regional municipalities and free workshops in schools.
