Music, street art, sports, and culture in the heart of Tagliacozzo
The Dante Street Festival is the summer event that brings Tagliacozzo to life, an elegant village in the Marsica area of the province of L'Aquila, in the heart of Abruzzo. Established in 2023, the festival chose the central Piazza Dante as its main stage, extending along Viale Aldo Moro and into the spaces of the Cortile Tantalo. The initiative is promoted by the Movimenti di Gusto association under the artistic direction of journalist Raffaele Castiglione Morelli, and over the years, it has received the patronage of the Abruzzo Region, the Province of L'Aquila, and the Municipality of Tagliacozzo.
The festival weaves together different languages over a single weekend: concerts and DJ sets, dance, cinema, visual arts, and street art coexist with moments of cultural reflection. The reference to Dante Alighieri is not just in the name: every edition dedicates space to the figure of the Supreme Poet with lectio magistralis, literary presentations, and contemporary reinterpretations, such as the short film inspired by Paolo and Francesca and Canto V of the Inferno.
An important part of the festival is dedicated to urban sports, with tournaments open to young people and enthusiasts: street basketball, five-a-side football at the Stadio Luca Poggi, padel at the Oasi di Padel on Via delle Macchie, and street volleyball. The competitions enliven the days and complete the street soul of the event, designed to involve young people and families.
With its mix of culture, entertainment, and sports, the Dante Street Festival has established itself as one of the most vibrant summer events in the Municipality of Tagliacozzo, capable of attracting artists, young talents, and visitors from all over the Marsica region and beyond. Admission to the events in Piazza Dante is completely free, confirming the popular and participatory vocation of this Abruzzese festival.
The fourth edition of the Dante Street Festival was held in Tagliacozzo from July 3 to 5, 2026, with Piazza Dante once again serving as the beating heart of the event promoted by the Movimenti di Gusto association and directed by Raffaele Castiglione Morelli.
Street basketball, five-a-side football at the Stadio Luca Poggi, padel, and the new street volleyball tournaments were confirmed. All events in Piazza Dante were free of charge.
Tagliacozzo can be reached by car via the A24 Rome-L'Aquila motorway, taking the Tagliacozzo exit, or by train on the Rome-Pescara line (Tagliacozzo station). The heart of the festival is Piazza Dante, in the historic center.
All events in Piazza Dante are free of charge. Some sports tournaments require prior registration.
The festival takes place at the beginning of July: comfortable summer clothing is recommended for the outdoor evenings and for attending the sports tournaments in the center.
