About Danceteria

Danceteria is the major dance festival that transforms the historic center of Orbetello, on the Tuscan Maremma lagoon, into an open-air stage every summer. The town squares and the evening gala in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II host a mix of dance schools, young students, and guest performers, showcasing classical, modern, and contemporary choreography. The event is curated by the Pro Loco Lagunare and directed by maestro Arturo CannistrĂ , in collaboration with the National Federation of Dance Schools.

Danceteria: dance takes center stage in Orbetello

Danceteria is one of the most anticipated events of the Orbetello summer: a true dance gala that brings classical, modern, and contemporary dance to the evocative historic center of Orbetello, a town overlooking the famous lagoon of the Maremma, in the province of Grosseto, in the heart of the Tuscan coast.

Organized by the Pro Loco Lagunare in collaboration with the municipal administration, the event is directed by maestro Arturo CannistrĂ  and benefits from the valuable partnership of the National Federation of Dance Schools (FNASD). Local dance schools and guest dancers take to the stage in a dialogue that blends the training of young talents with high-level performances.

Two evenings, two spirits

In recent years, Danceteria has adopted a multi-evening format that gives the event even more scope:

  • About Orbetello — dance in the squares: an itinerant evening that brings performances to the squares and picturesque corners of the historic center, offering the public dance in direct contact with the lagoon town.
  • The dance gala: the highlight of the event, hosted in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, featuring a grand themed show that reinterprets a different musical or cultural world through the language of the body each year.

The 2025 edition, the eighth of the festival, was dedicated to the great legends of rock—from Queen to Coldplay, from U2 to the Rolling Stones—titled About Rock — dance meets the legends of rock, in a tribute that coincided with the 40th anniversary of Live Aid.

A training and cultural project

Beyond the performance, Danceteria is also a journey of growth: thanks to the collaboration with the FNASD and the artistic direction of maestro Arturo CannistrĂ , the festival has become part of the Leggere per ballare (Reading to Dance) projects, training paths designed for young dancers that intertwine history and culture with the practice of dance.

Orbetello and its lagoon

The setting is the unique town of Orbetello, built on a thin strip of land in the center of the lagoon of the same name, between Monte Argentario and the mainland. In summer, the historic center comes alive with events, markets, and shows: Danceteria is part of a rich summer calendar promoted by the Pro Loco Lagunare and the Municipality, which enhances the territory and community participation.

Danceteria — edition 2026

Danceteria returns to Orbetello from July 9 to 11, 2026, with a new edition of the dance gala in the lagoon's historic center. Once again, the event, curated by the Pro Loco Lagunare and directed by Arturo CannistrĂ  in collaboration with the National Federation of Dance Schools, will feature dance performances across the town squares and the grand evening gala.

The 2026 edition of Danceteria is confirmed in Orbetello from July 9 to 11, 2026, as part of the summer calendar of the Pro Loco Lagunare and the Municipality. As in recent editions, the festival is structured around the dual format of itinerant dance through the squares of the historic center (About Orbetello — dance in the squares) and the evening gala in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, under the direction of maestro Arturo Cannistrà and in collaboration with the FNASD.

The detailed program and the theme of the 2026 gala evening will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.

Programme Danceteria 2026

The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including the gala theme, times, and participating dance schools, will be announced by the Pro Loco Lagunare in the weeks prior to the event.

Based on recent editions, the event develops across two main moments:

  • About Orbetello — dance in the squares: itinerant evening with performances in the squares of the historic center.
  • Dance Gala in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II: themed evening show with local dance schools and guest dancers, directed by Arturo CannistrĂ .
