The Dodecarun circuit cross-country race in the Monferrato hills
The Cross Country Sport Village is a cross-country race held in Mirabello Monferrato, a small town in the province of Alessandria, in Piedmont. The event takes its name from the Country Sport Village, the sports center on Strada Comunia that hosts it: a facility perched on top of a hill with a beautiful view of the Monferrato landscape, equipped with tennis and padel courts, a gym, five-a-side football, beach volleyball, and a bar-restaurant.
The race is a regional FIDAL event, part of the Piedmontese Dodecarun circuit, and serves as the Alessandria Provincial Championship for youth categories. The course, laid out entirely within the sports center, is a one-kilometer loop to be repeated several times: an authentic cross-country track featuring climbs, descents, changes of pace, andโwhen the weather is unkindโplenty of mud, testing the technique and endurance of all competitors.
The competitive program covers all age groups, from beginners to masters:
Beyond the competition, the event is characterized by its focus on inclusion, with the participation of the CSI Attiva-mente sport association, which works with young people with cognitive disabilities. The event is organized by the Country Sport Village with technical support from Atletica Alessandria and the approval of the FIDAL Piedmont committee.
For fans of running and cross-country, the Mirabello Monferrato Cross is an opportunity to test themselves on a demanding course just a few kilometers from Alessandria and Casale Monferrato, in a typically Piedmontese natural setting. For spectators, it is a morning of outdoor sport among the Monferrato hills, a land of wines and UNESCO-recognized landscapes.
The debut of the Mirabello Monferrato Cross brought fans of the Dodecarun circuit cross-country to the Monferrato hills. The meeting point was set for 9:00 AM, with the first race at 10:00 AM.
Among the women, Ilaria Zavanone (Brancaleone Asti) won with a time of 16'54" over 4,000 meters; among the men, Riccardo Spalla (Accademia Atletica) prevailed in 18'29" over 5,000 meters. The course, a 1,000-meter loop to be repeated several times, was made challenging by mud and continuous changes in gradient.
Provincial specialty titles were awarded in the youth and cadet categories, with successes for, among others, Marco Marenco, Marta Fiorin, Andrea Locarno, and Arianna Lunardi. The day also included the involvement of the CSI Attiva-mente sport association, dedicated to the inclusion of young people with cognitive disabilities.
