Maestro Stecco's Orchestrallunata in the square of Castiglione dei Pepoli, with driving rhythms and Mediterranean melodies
The Crinali Festival is one of the most original cultural experiences in the Bolognese Apennines: not a series of concerts confined to a theater, but an intertwining of walks, landscapes, villages, and squares that become open-air stages. The stop in Castiglione dei Pepoli, in the Metropolitan City of Bologna, belongs to the "Crinali Villages and Squares" strand and brings music directly into the heart of the town, in Piazza della Libertà.
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 9:30 PM to 11:30 PM, Orchestrallunata takes the stage, the ensemble led by Maestro Stecco (Maurizio Gregori). It is a large formation—about fifteen musicians including a rhythm section, wind instruments (saxophones, trumpets, trombones, clarinet), accordion, electric violin, and choir—capable of transforming the square into a grand popular celebration. The program features pieces composed by Maestro Stecco, with driving rhythms and Mediterranean melodies that blend tradition with a look at current issues. Admission is free.
The evening is not an isolated event: it takes place concurrently with the Festival of the Wool and Silk Road, the event that celebrates the historic route connecting Bologna to Prato through the Apennines in Castiglione dei Pepoli. The Orchestrallunata concert thus becomes the musical highlight of a day of celebration that animates the entire village.
In its tenth edition in 2026, Crinali runs from May 27 to October 17 with over sixty performances spread across fourteen municipalities in the Bolognese Apennines, including theater, music, cinema, and circus. The festival is organized into strands—Crinali History, Crinali Nature, Crinali Sport, Crinali Cinema and Kids (for families), and Crinali Villages and Squares—and many events are preceded by a guided walk. The musical artistic direction is entrusted to Carlo Maver and Claudio Carboni, while the coordination is by the Union of Municipalities of the Bolognese Apennines, with the support of Bologna Estate.
Castiglione dei Pepoli is located in the upper Setta and Brasimone valley, straddling Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany, along the historic routes that cross the Apennines. An evening in the square with Orchestrallunata, outdoors and with free admission, is the ideal opportunity to discover this corner of the Emilia-Romagna Apennines, combining music, tradition, and conviviality.
