The traditional carnival of Courmayeur with the Beuffon masks
Lo Camentràn is the name given to the traditional carnival celebrated in Courmayeur, one of the most cherished popular festivals in the community at the foot of Mont Blanc, in the Valdigne valley. Unlike other celebrations in the Aosta Valley, Courmayeur's carnival has its own recognizable identity, embodied by the Beuffon mask, the symbolic costume of the festival that travels through the hamlets to announce the arrival of carnival.
The festival is organized by the Pro-Loco Comité de Courmayeur and keeps alive the rites of the peasant and Alpine culture of the Aosta Valley. The heart of the day is the distribution of the Carnival Minestrone, accompanied by local cheeses and cured meats, in a convivial atmosphere that brings together residents and visitors. There is also entertainment for children with baby dance and group games, and festive moments that continue throughout the town.
Although geographically close to the area of the famous historical carnivals of the Coumba Freida — held in the municipalities of the Gran San Bernardo and Valpelline valleys, recognizable by the colorful 'landzette' masks — Courmayeur's carnival maintains its specificity with the Beuffon. For visitors, it is an opportunity to discover a less-known Alpine carnival tradition that is deeply rooted in the Province of Aosta.
The 2026 edition of Lo Camentràn confirms the traditional rites of the Courmayeur carnival. The main day, Tuesday, February 17, opens with the announcement of the carnival in the hamlets thanks to the Beuffon masks and continues with the distribution of minestrone accompanied by local cheeses and cured meats, and entertainment for the little ones. A second festive event is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, with festivities on skates.
Program organized by Pro-Loco Comité de Courmayeur; any updates will be communicated in the days preceding the festival.
Courmayeur can be reached by car from the A5 Turin-Aosta-Mont Blanc motorway, Courmayeur exit. The center is pedestrianized, with parking available in the surrounding areas.
Tuesday, February 17, 2026 (main day, from 10 AM) and Saturday, February 21, 2026.
